Cappuccino 101

cappuccinoFor the coffee drinking newbie, cappuccino is one coffee drink that is an absolute must try drink. This concoction is quite literally espressos that have been prepared with steamed milk, which creates the frothy foam commonly associated with cappuccino.

In Italy, espresso is a drink that can be enjoyed any time of the day or night, cappuccino, however is a morning drink. In America, those rules no longer apply and we can indulge in this habit anytime we please. Just remember when in Rome (or Italy for this particular example) it is a good idea to do as the locals do or identify yourself clearly as a tourist.

A cappuccino is essentially comprised of thirds. It is equal parts espresso, steamed milk, and froth milk. While the quality of the espresso used in making cappuccino the most important component of the drink is the texture and temperatures of the milk. When made at the right temp and consistency, a qualified and creative barista can create works of art within the foam of your cappuccino.

I highly warn you though, before you drink your first cup of cappuccino, these drinks can be highly addictive and can come to quite a costly habit if you don't set serious limits for your daily trips to Starbucks (or whatever your favorite local coffee house is called). More and more people are trying cappuccinos for the very first time each and every day. While this particular drink is still relatively new in the United States it is rapidly growing in popularity-particularly among the twenty-thirty something crowd.

One way to seriously control your cappuccino addiction (I'm sure one is coming whether you realize it or not) is by purchasing a cappuccino maker for your home. This will save gas money on those mid-morning, mid-afternoon, and mid-night runs to the local coffee café in addition to massive amounts of gas money. This is particularly true if you are going against the flow of traffic.

Of course, you must try more than a couple of cappuccinos before making the decision to invest in a home cappuccino maker. If you've decided that you like them enough to make the investment your next decisions is about the quality of the maker you will need. You may want to research online or even walk the aisles of your favorite department store in order to accurately compare the many machines available. Choosing a new cappuccino maker will be very much like learning a new language but be patient and learn before hand what features are important to you and which you feel you could live without.

You will also want to consider whether your cup of cappuccino will be a daily event or a special occasion drink. If you will be drinking cappuccino daily you should ask yourself if you will be drinking this as your first thing in the morning drink or later in the day. The earlier in the morning you will be drinking your cup of cappuccino, the easier you want your machine to be to operate-trust me on this. Otherwise, go with what feels best for you and your luxury coffee drinking needs.
