Making a Perfect Cup of Coffee
Making a perfect cup of coffee really is not only simple but also easy to duplicate once you have the magic formula. Most people spend their lives in search of the recipe for the perfect cup. The perfect cup will differ from person to person and many people have very special requirements for the ideal coffee flavor. The little intricacies of strength and flavor will be up to you to work out, however, there are things you can do that will help you make a decent cup of coffee on a consistent basis. This will leave you to worry about the little flavor details rather than quality issues that often adversely affect the flavor of your coffee.
The first thing you should remember when attempting to make a great cup of coffee is that coffee really is all about the beans. The fresher and better quality your beans the better your cup of coffee is going to be. Your best bet is good quality Arabica beans that have been roasted no more than 48 hours and no less than 24 hours before brewing. With this in mind you should also know that coffee beans will only stay fresh about 7 days after roasting so you should make sure you do not buy the beans to far in advance. This is one item you do not want to buy in bulk. I also should add at this point that grinding your own beans immediately before brewing will also provide the best flavor, as ground beans are only fresh for about two days after being ground.
The next step in creating a 'knock your socks off' cup of coffee is to ensure your brewing and grinding equipment is clean. If hard water is an issue in your home, you should run white vinegar through your machine once every other week or so followed by two rounds of water (to insure all the vinegar has been removed as it will lend a not so lovely flavor to your coffee). This step is overlooked by many who feel that rinsing the pot out each day is plenty when it comes to clean but is quite an important step for enhancing the flavor of your coffee each morning.
Don't underestimate the power of water. You should keep in mind that the liquid in your coffee is water and you should use a good quality water in order to make your coffee. Keep in mind that colder water will taste better than warm water when making coffee and odd flavors in your water will filter through to your coffee adding a flavor to it that you hadn't intended.
You should also take great care that you are using the proper grind for the type of coffee you are brewing. Grinding is a very important component in the overall flavor of your coffee and should not be taken lightly or overlooked for the sake of timing or convenience. Invest seriously in your grinding machinery and make sure that you care for it properly. This too, will increase the flavor and quality of your coffee each morning.
There are many more things you can do that will affect the flavor of your coffee even playing around with the coffee to water ratio. The steps mentioned above will help you make a better cup of coffee each and every day if you follow them closely while you work out the recipe for your favorite flavor.
