Selecting a Coffee Maker
Your choice when it comes to a coffee maker is a very personal thing. There are many types of coffee makers on the market today and that market is changing with the speed of light. Of the more common types of coffee makers you will find on the U.S. market are drip style coffee makers. There are also espresso makers, cappuccino machines, pod coffee makers, and countless others that can lead to feelings of confusion and helplessness when making your final selection.
Asking yourself the following questions can help you determine which type of coffee maker will best suit your needs.
- How much time am I willing to spend each morning preparing coffee?
- What is the most important factor about your daily cup of coffee: taste, aroma, freshness, or speed?
- What extra equipment will you need in order to create your coffee?
- Do you prefer special types of coffee such as cappuccino and espresso or are you content with tradition drip coffee?
- Is fresh ground or fresh roasting a requirement for your preferred coffee?
- Do you have the counter or storage space for multiple coffee makers if you have varying coffee needs?
While the questions may not seem that important, each question helps you define both the things you want in a coffee maker and the things you cannot live without in a coffee maker. If speed and convenience are of the utmost importance, a one-cup coffee maker may be the best option for you. They tend to make the coffee much more quickly than larger units and if you select a unit that allows pods usage you will find a lot less mess to clean up, which saves even more of that precious time so early in the morning.
Some people prefer quality to promptness and are willing to wait for the finer things in life even if that means they have to wake up a little bit earlier. If you are one of these people then a one-cup coffee maker that utilizes pods will probably not be the best choice for you. This limits your ability to use fresh ground, special blends, or freshly roasted coffee. You are also limited somewhat by the rather defined selection of most popular flavors that can assist in keeping prices per cup lower than if more exotic blends were offered.
If you prefer espresso or cappuccino as your first cup in the morning then you will definitely want to be very selective when choosing your coffee maker of choice. It is important that you understand what type of effort will be required each and every morning in order to get your coffee up and running.
On the other hand, if you prefer quick and easy in the morning but like an afternoon or after dinner espresso you might find that cabinet and/or counter top space is extremely important in your coffee maker buying process. There is no rule written or unwritten that requires you to only have one. However, you need to make sure if you purchase more than one that they are easy to access so that you do not find you have wasted money by not using the secondary coffee maker.
Whichever coffee maker you choose for your home is ultimately a personal choice. Some find these machines to be a rather sizable investment. The thing to keep in mind however is that you are likely to use your coffee maker every day for the next several years of your life. You may as well choose a machine that you are going to be completely satisfied with or you risk buying a machine you will be replacing all too soon.
